About From Concentrate Software
Since 2003, From Concentrate Software has been making quality Mac applications available to end-users. FCS strives to make useful, usable software to fulfill the needs of common Mac users. Building on a long history of general geekery and a love of Macintosh computers, FCS tries to make this software reflect the general look, feel, and attitude to which Mac-users are accustomed.
FCS is familiar with many aspects of design and code. Fluent in Objective-C and C/C++, FCS primarily uses the Cocoa framework to produce Mac-native applications. FCS is also proficient in Java, BASIC, and Perl, so a few other projects based on these may appear from time to time.
Focus on being useful
FCS uses every bit of software it makes. Applications like Paperclip and Countdown are used every day. They were developed into distributable applications because many people can likely derive a great amount of use from them. Every idea, even if not immediately usable, is stored with the hopes that it can come to fruition later. FCS also is greatly appreciative of the users that send feedback that make applications infinitely more usable. No decision is arbitrary, every application and every feature is designed to have some use.
The name represents the amount of forethought and effort that goes into every application. As was mentioned above, very little, if anything, is arbitrary. "From Concentrate" is not only the name, but also the motto behind everything FCS does.
Software philosophy
To steal a phrase, software is not a destination but rather a journey. FCS feels that good software is "alive", that is, always being evaluated and tweaked, moving closer to the ideal form. FCS always appreciates any and all feedback and uses every available idea to improve applications.
Made on a Mac, designed for a Mac
Like the software, this website was designed on an Apple Macintosh computer. It is standards compliant and renders well in both Safari and Firefox. If this page looks weird to you and/or you are using Internet Explorer, please consider doing yourself a favor and getting a better browser.
Software used
From Concentrate Software uses the Xcode integrated development environment. This site was hand-coded in TextWrangler. The front page and developer's blog is managed using WordPress.
