SiteTagger has the option of importing bookmarks from popular browsers such as Safari, Firefox, OmniWeb, Camino, and Internet Explorer. You can begin importing from these browsers by clicking on the File menu, highlighting “Import from” and selecting the name of the browser. Depending on the number of bookmarks, this could take a few seconds or a few minutes. There are some differences in what information is received from each browser.
Safari - SiteTagger imports a lot of information about Safari’s bookmarks. It gets the favicon if it is in Safari’s cache and also builds tag information from the names of the folders that the bookmark is in. In addition, every bookmark imported from Safari has “Safari” included in the tag information.
OmniWeb - SiteTagger gets title and url information from OmniWeb and also builds a tag string from the names of OmniWeb’s bookmark folders. If OmniWeb has a favicon in its cache, SiteTagger will grab it. “OmniWeb” is also included in the tag information of every bookmark.
Firefox - Titles, urls, and favicons are imported from Firefox. No tag information is received but every bookmark imported from Firefox has “Firefox” as its tag string.
Camino - Titles, urls, and tags can be imported from Camino. Tags imported also have “Camino” added to them.
Internet Explorer - Only the titles and urls of bookmarks are received. Every bookmark imported from IE has “Internet Explorer” in its tag information.
del.icio.us - SiteTagger can import all of your del.icio.us bookmarks including the tags and comments. SiteTagger uses the del.icio.us favicon for bookmarks imported from del.icio.us.
Furl - Importing from Furl is a bit different from importing from the other methods. In order to import, you have to go to Furl.net and log in. After that, you can import from Furl.net so long as you remained logged in.
Webpage - SiteTagger can scrub links off of webpages. This is particularly handy for linkblogs or the like. Enter a URL in the text field and press the “Start” button. SiteTagger will grab all the links it can and present them in a table. SiteTagger is aware of several microformats and will place relevant information the keywords section.
Folder - You can import folders full of .webloc or .url files using SiteTagger. SiteTagger will iterate through all the files in a given folder and take whatever .webloc or .url files it finds. In addition, SiteTagger will also attempt to extract links found in text files with a .txt file extension as well as links found in .rtf, .rtfd, and .doc files.
