Browser syncing

Syncing bookmarks

SiteTagger offers two forms of bookmark syncing. It can synchronize bookmarks between major browsers as well as through major online bookmarking services. Both of these features are found under the File menu.

Syncing with browsers

At present, SiteTagger can sync bookmarks with Safari, Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, and Internet Explorer.

When you synchronize bookmarks, you have the option of importing all new bookmarks during the sync. If selected, SiteTagger will attempt to import new bookmarks from all selected browsers before synchronizing. This ensures that no data loss occurs when synchronizing. If you do not import while synchronizing, any new additions to your bookmark files not in SiteTagger’s database will be lost.

You can also select which browsers SiteTagger will attempt to synchronize. SiteTagger synchronizes with browsers by first attempting to find the bookmarks bar for a browser. If it is found, that information is copied over to the new file. SiteTagger then recreates the browser’s bookmark file with information from its database. The bookmarks bar is recreated so that it remains the same after the sync.

Syncing with services

SiteTagger can synchronize bookmarks with del.icio.us, Furl, and ma.gnolia online services. You can also synchronize between multiple accounts for each service. SiteTagger first attempts to download new bookmarks. After that, it tries to send bookmarks that have been added or modified since the last update.

Bookmarks downloaded from services are automatically affiliated with that service and account. These bookmarks will be considered in future syncs. If you would like to affiliate bookmarks with services, select the service from the Services menu of the bookmark editing window. Services that are synced with a bookmark are denoted by a checkmark next to it in the menu. A bookmark may be affiliate with multiple services.

You can create several accounts for del.icio.us and ma.gnolia accounts. You simply need add the correct username and password. You can only have one Furl account, however. In order to have the Furl account work correctly, you need to make sure you are logged into the Furl website. After that, SiteTagger should be able to sync bookmarks with Furl.
