If you don't have a phone line connected to your modem, you can utilize speaker dialing to place calls. Speaker dialing refers to the process of using your Mac's speakers, either internal or attached, to place calls. Here is how you do it:
- Select "Preferences" from the MacDialer menu.
- Set the "Use to dial" pop-up menu to "Speaker". Click the "Apply" button.
- Pick up your phone. If it is a handheld phone or needs to be turned on to place a call, press the button that turns the handset
on and gives you a dial tone.
- Hold the phone close to your speakers, but do not allow it to touch them. Select a contact or dial a number as you normally would.
The speakers will now emit dial tones that triggers your phone to dial that number.
