There are several ways to add contacts to MacDialer. You can either add numbers externally, by using the Address Book, internally, by using the Phone Book Manager, and a mixture of external and internal by relying on the system-wide services to add information to the Phone Book Manager. Here are the steps required for each method.
Externally (using the Address Book):
- Launch Address Book
- Click the "+" button under the list of your contacts to add a new contact
- Add information to this contact. A name is necessary for personal contacts (either first, last or both) and organization is necessary for business contacts. You must also include at least one phone number. Additional phone numbers will be included in MacDialer, so add all that you wish to include.
- Click on the MacDialer icon and mouse over the "Address Book" menu item. A list of all contacts in your Address Book that have phone numbers are in a sub-menu. MacDialer is auto-updated when there is a change in your Address Book, so the number and contact that you have just added should be included in this menu.
Internally (using MacDialer):
- Select "Phone Book Manager" from the MacDialer menu item.
- Click the "New" button.
- Add a name, a number, and select which type of contact it is. If you have a vCard file on your computer, you can drag it into the "Drag vCard here" field and have all the information filled out automatically. Click the "Apply" button.
- This number will now appear in the submenu called "Phone Book" under the MacDialer menu.
Mixed (using system services):
- Select some text. It should be the name of a contact or the number of a contact.
- Mouse over "Services" of the menu item that is the name of your currently front-most application (i.e. the "Finder" menu item when using the Finder). Mouse over the "MacDialer" submenu. If you have selected a name, select "Add name to phone book". Otherwise, select "Add number to phone book".
- The Phone Book Manager opens and puts the selected text into the appropriate field. Fill out the rest of the information and click "Apply". This contact will now be available under the "Phone Book" submenu of the MacDialer menu.
