Just today, I was browsing around the interwebs and realized that I had managed to forget entirely about MyDreamApp. Do you remember it? It was that competition by the MacHeist people wherein people submitted application ideas and then voted on which idea was the best. The best application would then be developed and sold. The final idea selected was one for a cookbook application (not the sexiest, but it’s a growing field), and the screenshots were getting very “delicious.” Well, if you look at the front page of MDA now, you’ll notice that the last post was in July of last year. It’s been a long time without any news. So, I did that thing I do and looked up whatever information I could find about it.
I learned, from MDA’s forums, the following:
- They had developer issues. They seem to have needed more devs for one thing, different devs for another, and money for a third (Nov, 2007).
- At least one problem is solved. There’s an agreement but legal stuff to work out first (Feb, 2007).
So, there were three apps that got whittled down to two. There’s been little information altogether but, as of 11 days ago (at the time of this post), there were negotiations to get at least one ball rolling again. Well, it was an ambitious project. I’m looking forward to whatever news may be forthcoming.
Also, let’s not forget that the whole ResExcellence resurrection appears to be pretty much dead (over a year with no word). Also, some people have started snapping. I’m a bit surprised that the comments have seen as much activity as they have. I thought I was the only one with a long memory for formerly great sites. I miss ResExcellence…
[Update] Matt Ball notes on a trend of the Delicious Generation in which apps tend to be dropped or become vaporware.
